An ambitious region

From Lyon to Turin, and beyond!
The new Lyon-Turin freight and passenger rail link stretches over 270km and is a crucial part of the Trans-European Transport Network.
It forms part of the “Mediterranean Corridor”, which connects Algeciras in Spain to the Hungary-Ukraine border, 3,000 km away. It will cross the border with Italy thanks to a 57.5km tunnel, connecting the Maurienne Valley (Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne) in France to the Susa Valley in Italy.

Léman Express, the first regional express link connecting France to Switzerland
Forming a crucial link between Geneva and northern Haute-Savoie, the Léman Express will provide passengers with a fast and convenient route across the border. Opening in December 2019, the 16km line will connect Geneva and Annemasse. It will include 2km of brand new rail in France and a modernisation project in Haute-Savoie, making it ready for the Léman Express – the first express passenger train service across the Franco-Swiss border. 50,000 passengers per day are expected to board the forty trains needed to serve the entire Léman Express route.
